& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING
WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE
( and it never seems out of place )
It was with deep seated appreciation that Andromeda looked around platform 9 3/4. She could hardly believe that this was would be her last time boarding the Hogwarts Express to go to Hogwarts. The last few years had flown by so quickly, but they had made some of the best memories Andromeda's ever had. Guiding her trolley she looked around at the students saying goodbye to their families, some were younger and others were around her age. While most of the mothers present were teary-eyed as they sent their children off Andromeda could pick out a few who hadn't said anything sentimental to theirs. Recognizing those few as acquaintances of her parents, Andromeda soon understood their behavior.
Many of the upper-class pure-blood families rarely showed public displays of affection. It was a demeanor similar to her own Mother. "Andromeda!" Speaking of her mother...Andromeda was brought back to reality by Druella's voice, obviously irritated by her daughters wandering mind "Andromeda, pay attention!" She snapped. Looking at her mother Andromeda fixed an apologetic expression on her face as she said "Forgive me Mother, what was it you were saying?" Trying not to flinch at the scowl on Druella's face. It was rude, but there were times that Andromeda couldn't help but tune her Mother out. The things that came out of the older witch's mouth was nothing she hadn't already heard a thousand times over.
Choosing to disregard her daughters brief distraction with the other witches and wizards around her, Druella continued with what she had been telling her middle child "I was simply reminding you of your station and your expectations. Now that Bellatrix has finished her education, it's for you to present yourself in a manner that's respectful of this family." Andromeda fought the urge to roll her eyes, Merlin forbid anything tarnish the Black name. She wished she could tell her Mother that she didn't give a damn how others looked at their family, but she knew better. Disrespecting her Mother in such a way was unbefitting, and her Father would certainly have something to say once he got word of it. No, it was best for her to simply nod her head as she said "Yes Mother." in order to prevent any complications. She didn't want to begin her seventh year poorly.
Druella finished telling her how to conduct herself this year, and Andromeda just nodded as she did so. Once Druella had finished rattling off instructions, Andromeda was allowed to board the train. With some difficulty, and help from other students, Andromeda was able to get her trunk on the train and into the heads compartment. Listening to her Mother tattle on Andromeda nearly forgot she had been made head girl and had to meet with the head boy before gathering the prefects and giving them their instructions. Since the head boy had yet to be seen, Andromeda wondering briefly who he was, she changed from the red dress she wore to the station into her Slytherin robes. She had found that it was much easier than waiting and having to fight to change once they were almost to the castle. In her school robes she pinned her head girl badge to them and looking back out to see that the other students were piling into compartments now.
The slow, steady movement of the train let Andromeda know that the train was moving. She looked out the window just in time to see the station become a blur. Most of her fellow students were waving out the windows, saying goodbyes and i love you's to their loved ones. Not Andromeda though, her Mother never stuck around to see her daughters leave and her Father never came to the station with them. Normally she would just find a compartment with her sisters, but that was when she and Bellatrix were still close. Now Bella was married, and Narcissa was off with friends of her own. That left Andromeda on her own for a change, which was nice. It gave her time to rest before she had to meet with the prefects. Relaxation sounded nice, that's what Andromeda thought. The head boy had yet to appear, so Andromeda laid down on the seat, her hair covering her face, as she drifted into a light sleep. She wasn't sure how long she had dozed off before the sound of someone's feet shuffling in startled her out of her slumber.
