Lucius Malfoy could not stop thinking about that kiss he shared with Narcissa Black under the mistletoe, or rather the kiss he had given her. It had never really left his mind, not over the summer, but the fact that he and Narcissa were going to spend quite a bit of time together made it come rushing back, as well the urge to kiss her again. He didn’t think she would appreciate it right now but maybe sometime this school year she'd be amiable to it.
The two of them were Prefects and usually Prefects from the same House and year would patrol the hallways together, which meant that Lucius had several hours to try and convince her that he wasn’t so bad and had nothing to do with Rupert avoiding her. He wished that he had but even he would not stoop so low, especially when he felt that he could convince her of how much he liked her and that she truly did like him.
The area that they were patrolling was the second floor and he decided to wait for her near the entrance to the Slytherin Common Rooms. He leaned casually against a wall and had to grin as he watched the girl's dormitory for her. He had tried a few times to enter it and couldn’t and yet it was ironic that girls could easily enter the boy's dormitory. They were to start patrolling at midnight and Lucius glanced at the clock. She had a few moments so Lucius settled back against the wall he was leaning on, head tilted back slightly against the wall behind him.
Lucius knew he was considered handsome and that most girls thought he was extremely charming and he had to wonder what was so off-putting about him to Narcissa. No one else seemed to think so poorly of him. Well, except for the non-Purebloods he sneered at but he was hardly the only one that did that to them so that wasn’t really surprising. But he had simply been persistent in getting her attention, even when she was dating Rupert, which his actions and those she likely thought he had done were probably the reason why she despised him.
Perhaps now that Rupert was engaged to some French girl, he could convince her that he hadn’t done anything to scare her boyfriend off and that he truly liked her. He considered his feelings for her. Was he attracted to her? Definitely. Did he like her? Yes. Did he love her? That he wasn’t sure about. He wasn’t entirely sure what love felt like so he didn’t really know how to judge his feelings towards her. He pursed his lips and sighed. Why were relationships so hard? He heard his father's voice telling him that it was all part of growing up.
His father was oddly pleased in his son's attraction to the youngest Black daughter. He wasn’t sure what exactly that meant for him or anyone except the fact that his father was pleased that he was interested in a good, wealthy Pureblood girl. The Blacks were about as wealthy as the Malfoy and certainly of the same pedigree. So if something did come of Lucius and Narcissa, he knew that his father would approve. Not that he would become a couple with her simply to please his father, though that certainly was in the back of his mind in his interactions with her.
