Narcissa did not need his snark or blame to add onto her likely major guilt at how she had acted towards him. Lucius wasn’t sure why he held his tongue but maybe it was because he cared for her and didn’t want to hurt his chances any further at getting together with her. She seemed a bit embarrassed by her reaction to his hand on her cheek and yet he frowned when she shook her head in indication that her ex had not apologized to her. "Do I need to talk to him and make him apologize to you?" Perhaps it would have been a bit forced on Rupert's end that way but it was better to say it in general than to not say it at all.
But she went on to explain what Rupert had said and his face darkened, his sweet smile disappearing. He was upset at her but rather Rupert. "You didn’t cheat on him. I was the one who kissed you not the other way around and you kept refusing to go out with me." His face softened slightly, though he was still angry at the other male. "He really called you that?" He hoped that Rupert did not say anything to anyone else but he had to ask. "Did he say that to anyone else or just you?" If he had been spreading around those lies about the youngest Black sister, he's have Lucius to answer to.
Her face was averted from his and yet he could tell that she was listening to what he was saying. Lucius wasn’t sure whether or not she was upset with him or at Rupert or with the world in general, or perhaps she was embarrassed by his show of affection and concern towards her or confused by it. He knew that he was slightly confused as to why he was showing her this much care. Perhaps his feelings were deeper than what he wanted to think about at the moment. But he was more concerned by Narcissa. Her hair obscured her face from him so he couldn’t see her face as he spoke.
He had expected her to stiffen and pull away when he pulled her into a hug. But she didn’t, instead burying her face in his shoulder and crying. His arms tightened slightly and a hand rubbed her back comfortingly as he muttered soft words of comfort into her hair. She was silent in her crying but he could feel her tears on his skin. After about fifteen minutes, her tears stopped and she sniffed, pulling her head off his shoulder to look at his face. Lucius thought she might pull away but she stayed where she was, close enough that he could see each of her eyelashes. She thanked him and he gave her a small smile. "I would do anything for you, Cissa." And he meant it. Yet they were so close and he couldn’t help but think to their kiss on the mistletoe and he wanted to kiss her but he wasn’t sure how she would react. He knew she would not be pleased if he just dove in but would she think he was taking advantage of her? "Can I kiss you?" His voice was low and soft. Yet he made no move closer to her, eyes mostly focusing on hers but occasionally flickering to her lips. He would not do anything unless she gave permission.
