As a true socialite, Narcissa Black loved nothing more than attending parties and balls and just being social. So, when she heard that, by some miracle, Dumbledore decided to have a Christmas Ball that year, she felt like this decision of his was probably the only right decision he ever made in his life. At least, that was how Cissy looked at it. She had been busy for the past two and a half months and she really needed the break. What a wonderful break a ball would be. So upon hearing the wonderful news, she had notified her parents at once. The next day, her parents sent her an owl notifying her that she and Dromeda were to meet with their private dress designers during the first weekend of December. Of course, Cissy told her sister about this and they had their measurements taken. After that, they talked about the overall design of the dresses, the length, the textile the designer was going to use, etcetera. Their ball dresses had arrived the weekend after that.
She stared at her reflection and her dress. It was extremely beautiful and it suited her perfectly. It showed just the right amount of skin. It was lacy, elegant and obviously made of the most expensive materials. At the same time, it was conservative but sophisticated. It was a classic Black princess dress. She knew her date, Geoffrey, would love it. Not that that matter much though because they were merely friends- no more, no less. It was just Cissy. She loved being admired. It was a shame that he ended up being her date instead of a certain blonde and beautiful Slytherin. After striving to be civil with each other, confiding in him about Rupert and kissing a few times, she and Lucius were in a way better place now more than ever. However, he had asked her to the ball a bit too late. She had already said yes to one of her boy peers. And, when Cissy promised anyone anything, she kept to it.
She smiled at her reflection one last time before slipping on her high-heeled shoes and heading toward the Slytherin Common Room, where she and her date were supposed to meet up. When she got there, Geoffrey beamed and complimented her beauty. “Thank you.” She said and when he offered her his arm and asked if they should go, she nodded her agreement and gracefully made her way to the Great Hall. Narcissa felt a lot of adoring eyes on her as she walked with her friend. It was unsurprising. She was extremely beautiful, her dress was immaculate and Geoffrey was a far cry from lacking on the looks department either. In fact, he looked particularly dazzling in his dark green dress robes- which seemed to bring out the color of his eyes. The two of them was quite a sight to behold.
When they arrived at the Great Hall, the festivities had already begun as several couples were already dancing on the dance floor. Narcissa took in the Great Hall’s new arrangement and had to give it to Dumbledore and the Professors that the venue was beautiful. The hall’s two-hour preparation time was obviously well utilized. After taking in the view, Geoffrey put a hand on her shoulder and gently led her toward the punch table on the far corner of the room. She looked up at him, curiously. Before she could ask him what it was all about, he filled her in about his crush having no date. Fiona, his crush, was a beautiful, pureblooded and rich fourth year Slytherin girl. She could understand why Geoffrey would like her and if she was not his friend, she would have slapped him in the face when he finally said he wanted to go spend the ball with her. Narcissa, instead, sighed. “It’s alright Geoffrey. Don’t sweat it.” She said, trying to keep irritation out of her voice. She had said no to Malfoy because of this guy and now he was ditching her? He had a lot of nerve. Yes, Fiona was rich and pureblooded and beautiful but Cissy was far richer, more beautiful than the younger girl and was from one of the oldest and purest magical families. It was his lost, she decided. After only a few moments, she motioned for him to just go. She was vexed on the inside but she did not show it. The last thing she wanted after being left dateless in a ball was to create a scene that would broadcast it to the entire school. She also did not want to look desperate for Geoffrey’s attention. The youngest Black took a glass of punch and took a sip as she made her way to the nearest small table. She then looked into her glass and scowled at its contents.
