Sixteen year old Eva Wintringham was normally a very easy going type of person, but at the moment she was anything but. Actually she was in the midst of an argument with her brother, Herman. Rolling her eyes while he said "What I don't understand is how you got a detention the first week of school." looking utterly miffed at the situation. "It's called I don't put up with bigots thinking they rule over Hogwarts, or let them believe that they're better than me because I'm a muggle-born." She informed him unable to keep the bitterness from her voice. Eva knew perfectly well how she landed in detention with McGonagall. It was because of those blood Slytherins, pure-blood's nonetheless. In that moment Herman sent his twin a sympathetic, and understanding, look. For as long as she could remember the Slytherins had been giving her a hard time because of her heritage, as if she could help it. Well she wasn't going to let it just slide on by her, it just wasn't who she was. You could fairly say that Eva was more of an activist than a pacifist. Her brother threw his arm over her shoulder and squeezed it gently while saying “You're one of the most brilliant witches I know, and I’m not just saying that because you're my sister.” he said with a sly grin, which had Eva expecting him to add an ‘ usually I wouldn't say that, seeing that you are my sister.’ but it never came.
Knowing that he was being genuine Eva gently elbowed his side, muttering “Git.” and smiling at him. Herman returned her smile, and it was almost like he was trying to tell her not what they said to her, but not in so many words. However, that was easier said than done in her case, it wasn't hard to get her blood boiling. The Slytherins of Hogwarts were just the perfect people to push her buttons so expertly, they knew they would get a rise out of her. Which was exactly what happened in Transfiguration, Professor McGonagall had stepped out to talk to the headmaster for a moment and the Slytherins had started insulting her as she talked with another girl in her house. Eva had tried to ignore them, honestly she had, but they threw her sick mother into the conversation and she started seeing red. After she pulled out her wand it was all history, until McGonagall came in and saw her students firing hexes at each other that is. Immediately she had given her and the other girl detention for the evening, as well as deducting points from both houses. To say the least, Eva hadn’t been in the best of moods until Herman came along to speak to her. If there was anyone who could successfully calm her, it was her twin and best friend. They might be complete polar opposites but they were family, and had been best friends since the day they were born.
Looking up at Herman Eva asked “What time is it?” not wanting to be late for a detention, that would only give her head of house another reason to take points and keep her tomorrow night as well. Unfortunately she had to be in the Transfiguration classroom an hour after supper, she hoped she would have time to work on all of the homework she had gotten that week. Herman checked his watch quickly and said “Quarter til.” Causing his twin to sigh, and shrug his arm off of her “I have to go, don’t want to be late for detention. I love you, bye.” She told him, hugging him briefly before starting off towards the castle and to meet Professor McGonagall. When she finally made it to the Transfiguration classroom she peered inside to see that only the professor was in there. Though she was strict, she was Eva’s head of house, and Eva had more respect for her than most of the teachers in the school. Though she wasn't outwardly disrespectful of them, she just had her preferences. “Good evening Professor.” Eva said, setting her satchel on a table towards the front of the room and sitting down. Looking down the bridge of her nose Professor McGonagall returned her greeting with one of her own before getting right into business and telling her that she was to write ‘I will not duel with my peers.’ five hundred times while she was out preparing for her next day’s lesson. Pulling out some parchment and a quill from her satchel Eva rolled her eyes thinking ‘This is going to be a long night.’ and began the task she had been assigned.
