“I’m fine Callie, just go to quidditch practice!” Twelve year old Alyssa Rivers exclaimed, crossing her arms as she did. This was the fourth or fifth time her sister had asked her if she was sure she was alright staying in Gryffindor Tower, and Alyssa’s answer had yet to change. Giving her twin a reassuring smile Alyssa stared at Calyssa’s identical, retreating back. Allie had nothing against spending time with just Calyssa, but the truth was that quidditch simply wasn't for her. Yes, she went to the games but she had no interest in watching Gryffindor practice, not even since her own sister was on the team. Besides, she had to finish up her homework for Potions, Transfiguration, and Defense Against the Dark Arts. The homework for defense was an essay on vampires that she had yet to start, thank Merlin she had gotten the essay for Astronomy out of the way the day it had been assigned. Allie felt like she had put off finishing her homework for long enough, and she didn’t want to find herself in detention for not doing it. It was too early to get a detention for one, and getting detention for not finishing assignments was a stupid thing to do. Not to mention that she would certainly be getting an angry letter from home if she did.
Going back up to the second year girls’ dorms Allie grabbed her homework for Transfiguration homework as well as ‘Standard book of spells’, deciding to finish the work she had already begun first. It helped that Professor McGonagall, though she was very stern, was her favorite professor as that made her even more eager to finish her homework. Once she had everything she needed for this particular assignment, Allie went back down to the strangely quiet common room sat at a table closest to the window. Outside she could see a bunch of students out on the lawns. Some were talking, some just enjoying what was left of the pleasant weather, and others seemed to be doing homework as well. Potions would probably have to come next, since her essay would probably take longer to complete and it wasn't due as soon as the other two assignments. She didn’t understand why Professor Birch had to give them an essay so early in the year! Professor Sinistra had as well, but Allie found that Astronomy was a rather easy subject for her last term. Writing about constellations and how zodiac signs were important to them was a piece of cake.
Now was a good a time as ever, since the Gryffindor common room was normally full of rambunctious students, best to take advantage of the rare silence. Pulling her brown, wavy, waist length hair into a neat plate and securing with a small elastic she had around her wrist, Alyssa dipped her quill in the pot of ink she had set out and began working on her assignment. The homework Professor McGonagall had assigned was to describe the basic theory behind certain spells that they would be learning that year. It was fairly simple and they were allowed to choose the spells they wanted to use. Piece of cake, as it was mostly reading and then summarizing. Set on her work, Alyssa looked up when the portrait opened and she heard the voices of fellow Gryffindors as they came through.
